Prosecuting Attorney William Jennings Bryan. Bryan who had successfully prosecuted schoolteacher Scopes for teaching evolution instead of the Biblical account of creation against state law, died of natural causes. He had served in the House of Representatives, as Secretary of State under President Woodrow Wilson, and ran unsuccessfully for president three times on the Democratic ticket.
