School desegregation. Spring Valley School in San Francisco’s educational district refused admission to eight-year-old Mamie Tape, the daughter of Chinese immigrants. The court decision held that, “To deny a child, born of Chinese parents in this state, entrance to the public schools would be violation of the Constitution of the United States.”
