SKYTRIP AMERICA: AN INCREDIBLE RIDE THROUGH U.S. HISTORY (Discovery Channel Multimedia, $39.95).

This CD-ROM for Macintosh and Windows is an ideal method for children aged nine and up to gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of American history. Colorful video clips, narrated stories, and 3-D graphics bring to life such topics as the Spanish exploration and settlement of North America, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, life in the old West, the early years of the automobile industry in Detroit, the woman suffrage movement, the World War II internment of Japanese-Americans, and the development of rock-and-roll music. Young “travelers” visit such places as Plymouth Rock in 1620, Lexington and Concord during the battles of1775, Ellis Island in the early 1900s, San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake, and Yellowstone National Park.
